Best computer book I ever used
I came to Amazon to buy another copy of this for my brother-- your price is better than at our college store.I do not know who wrote that first note about this book being a waste of money, but my guess is that he has trouble in all of his classes, based on his writing.My instructor used this in our class, and we used the Online Companion to find additional resources to help us do he work.He also used the exercises in our class, and we were able to do real projects with the book.

Excellent Comprehensive Coverage
I found this to be the most complete and user friendly AutoCAD R13 book on the market.You can basically teach yourself how to use AutoCAD with this text very simply.The language is very user friendly and organized well.This book has 2D, 3D and programming and customizing AutoCAD.I am going to pick up a copy of the R14 version for reference.I recommend Harnessing AutoCAD highly!

Applying AutoCAD (R) 2000: A Step by Step Approach
This manual, in my opinion, is only good for a drafter making the jump from R14 to 2000. This manual is not meant for a person that is new to ACAD or for a person looking for an in-depth manual. There are too many subjects that are covered inadequately. Some subjects are simply dismissed. I realize that it is difficult to cover "it all" but this manual doesn't even come close. Basically this: If you want to get by and say that you've gone though the manual and you know this book, you don't know much. If you want to learn much more of "much", read the manuals written by Shumaker/Madsen. They're much more in-depth and informative. I do not recommend this manual unless you are making the jump from R14 to 2000.

Applying Autocad
Well written book.Chapters advance from basic concepts to more advanced applications of Autocad.The text, with the questions and problems at the end of each chapter will allow a student to self teach and master Autocad. It took me about 40 hours of study (from ground zero) to be proficient enough to make designs on semiconductor process equipment.

This book is written in a text book format for a course in AutoCad. Itcovers the basics well, and continues with explanations of 3-D, Autolisp.However the Autolisp coverage is limited.It is being used by onecommunity-college for three beginning 1-credit courses in AutoCad 2000.Although it is a textbook in style, and has many excercises and problems,it has sufficent detail to be used as a self-taught stand-alone text. ... It's better than nothing. But just barely.
While this text covers a great deal of information and is required at community colleges it's as exciting to read as drug warning labels. And you practically need a rossetta stone to drag the pertinent information out of the chapters.

In the book there are purple boxes with commands in them that are really helpful.
