Not flawless, but a very good introductory guide to Pro-E Wildfire 2.0
The author has done a very good job in writing this introductory guide to Wildfire 2.0. As noted by the other reviewer, this is a great learning tool for the beginner and is quite detailed. There are very few mistakes (only the occasional figure no. & scale factor typos as well as an incomplete sentence or two). If the reader only works the tutorials and successfully solves the problems at the end of the chapter, he will at least be competent at 3-D part modeling, 2-D drawing, and generating assemblies. However, I do have a few minor quips to note. There is no information on how to recover from a mistake, which can leave the novice user quite frustrated. In addition, there is no coverage of how to repair a failed feature, which cannot be completed, or change(modify) a feature in an existing model. No example of top down modeling (i.e. drawing parts in an assembly first). No coverage of sheet metal modeling (the author may not have considered this basic, but I would). Pro-E is not intuitive. However, once the reader becomes comfortable with a few of the commands, the overall logic of how the program operates seems to make more sense. That said, some operations are very complicated, including copying a feature from one orientation to another orientation. Although it would be no simple task, this reader would like to see a listing of all of the commands and their options with descriptions, where appropriate. Perhaps a new book idea for Mr. Tickoo? Finally, for the novice, patience and experimenting are the keys to successfully learning a new computer application. Good luck!

Very helpful and easy-to-follow methodology
Sham Tickoo writes from the standpoint of someone very familiar with the subject as he apparently is. The book represents a very easy-to-follow, step-by-step methodology, which is suitable even for complete beginners. The author covers the theory first and then illustrates it with appropriate tutorials. At the end of each chapter there are self-evaluation questions and exercises.
Perfect for a novice
I started learning proe wildfire when my project manager asked me to do so because I had to work on a project. With some solid modeling experience and this book in hand, I started doing it. I must say that it is because of this book that I was able to learn the software so easily and must importantly, I did not take much time. The chapters in this book are perfectly arranged. One of those books you keep by the computer.
When the publisher calles this book 'Bible' he means it. 1200+ pages on how to use the software. The back of the book says that this book is intended for 'Beginner to Intermediate' users. To be sure there is an introductory chapter at the beginning of the book might be enough for a beginner to get started with AutoCAD. But I'd recommend starting somewhere else, like say a 'For Dummies' book.

Great Way to Learn SketchUp
I am sure if you are a Google fan you now know that they offer SketchUp for free.Dr. Fukai's book assumed you had a limited amount of time (480 minutes) using the SketchUp 4.0 trial version included with his book.I can say that his book is truly one fantastic way to learn a lot about the details of modeling with SketchUp.Dr. Fukai's interactive "shorties" allows you to go over as often as needed to learn the details of this 3D software.I was having some difficulty part way through the tutorials and emailed Dr. Fukai and received detailed instructions on how to proceed. He is an excellent teacher and his book is highly recommended.

Never out in print fast enough
Paul Aubin has done it again.Like my title says, Paul Aubin's books never come out fast enough for me.This book is a great resource for ADT users.There have been a lot of changes since ADT first came out.The major changes started in ADT 2004 and continue on thru ADT 2007.The changes from ADT 2006 to ADT 2007 are covered very well in this book.He takes you step by step thru a residential project & a commercial project.As you go thru the book he not only shows you how you command(s) work, but also why.He also gets into the subtle changes that have come about, e.g. Visual Styles.The books is arranged in such a way that you can be productive in ADT 2007 as you go along in the book.You don't have to wait until you are completed with the book to be productive.You can also move around in the book to go over a certain part of ADT without having to work your way up to it.For example, if you are just getting thru adding windows & doors & your work project needs to add a roof, you can go to the section of the book that covers roofs & you will be able to understand how to work roofs from reading the section withour having to do the sections before.But, if you can, go thru the book in the order that it's written to get the best grasp of ADT that you can.You can truly expect your skills to rise at least one level from going thru the book.

It's not the technique, it's the logic behind it
Most evolutionary computation or math books deal with the techniques of solving problems. This book teachs you how to think of a solution for the problem you face, and not what problems are appropriate for the technique in hand.
improve your problem solving ability
The authors have updated their successful first edition, though the latter, printed in 99, was scarcely obsolete. A heuristic can be basically a rule of thumb, dressed up in fancier language. What the authors intend is for you to develop an intuition about when to use modern algorithms. Where is almost every case, these are actually implemented on a computer; a reflection of the cheap availability of computing power to most readers.
get this book!, read it!, understand it! :)
i have not finished reading this book, but it's 'worth it' if only for the first two chapters! :) anyone interested in dynamical systems (control aspects), general problem solving, AI, and human thinking should read and understand this book! :) work the problems! :) think! enjoy! :) ... Read more

A very useful,easy to read book on sv and verification
if you want to learn systemverilog and its application on verification, this is book for you. The book includes lots of good /short examples, help you better understand the concepts and discussions. If you have doubts, it is very easy to type in the coes to verify.A must have book to get yourself familiar with sv and verification.

Great Examples !
This book is a must if you are going to code in SystemVerilog. Chris is very knowledgeable about the language features and great at presenting these features in a very compact way. The examples alone make the book worthwhile.

I got this book to learn SystemVerilog being one of the new IEEE HDL and Testbench development languages. It is a great book and covers everything you need to know about SystemVerilog as a testbench development language. If one is coming from a HW development background, this is the book to read to learn the basic concepts of Object Oriented Programming and the additional bells and whistle which System Verilog added to Verilog.

Excellent primer on Robust Engineering... how to book
This book is quite readable, considering the topic, and does an excellent job of explaining the high level strategies of Dr. Taguchi's approach to optimization and experimentation.It also covers tactical issues like how to determine your ideal function and noise strategies. How to learn Robust Design
I like this book because it gives a very good introduction into the concepts of noise- and control-factors. It treats the concept of "energy transformation" good, which is important to find the appropriate Ideal Function for your product.Read more

A verbose tome that scratches the surface
Compared to the online help, this book reviews favorably. But Revit is a deep program, and to really use Revit efficiently and fully takes more than an "intermediate" book will offer, which the Aubin text admits to being. I say the text is verbose because, for instance, it always refers to Revit as "AutoDesk Revit Building", which gets very tiring. The book introduces Revit by designing two projects, which is nice, but a lot of the useful information is hidden in little sidebar tips, which makes using the book as a reference (for instance, as a command reference) difficult.

Mastering Autodesk Revit Building
I purchased this book because of the favorable reviews I read from this site. I wasn't dissapointed...this book delivered. I just recently got hired by a major architectural firm that uses Autodesk Revit Building. My background is Autocad ADT 2006 and have no idea at all what Revit is all about. Two weeks prior to my start with this new firm, I bought this book and diligently went through all of Mr. Aubin's tutorials every night. Now, two weeks into this new company, I am even, if not more advanced, with all their employees (they took the transition to Revit ten months ago)! On a few occasions, I had some questions pertaining to the book and Mr. Aubin had graciously replied promptly to these inquiries by email. If you're not yet using Revit, then you're missing a lot. This is the future of CAD. And if you decide to switch, this book is a must! Thanks for a great book Paul!

If you need to learn or support those who are learning Revit Building, you can not afford to miss this book. Paul has a way with his writing that lets you get right to what you want to do. Whether you want to learn the basics or dive deep into advanced material Paul has it all. I've read other authors of autodesk products and felt shortchanged compared to Paul's indepth and easy to read methods. makes autocad easy to learn
what i like about this book, over the books that come from autodesk, the makers of autocad, is that it's trimmed down. it isn't filled with lots of extra stuff you will never use. this book is simple and straight forward, which is what you need when you're using a monster of a program like autocad. the reason for the monster, is so anyone, with varied applications, can use this program. ideally, the program be would customized per use; eg there could be autocad for drawing small mechanical parts, one for designing hvac systems, one for architecture (this finally exists in the form of autocad architectual desktop), one for circuit design, etc. with specialized versions of autocad, a manual could be written specific for each use. maybe this type of manual exists already, using autocad for each specific use, but i haven't found it yet. Just as any study text should be, this book is plodding in its presentation. As an engineer familiar with AutoCAD 11 but very rusty indeed, this manual was a relief. I easily mastered all of its concepts and even managed to figure it out ahead of the author's demonstration. For its price, this is the place to go for any beginner or, like me, an old dog learning, or in my case, re-learning old tricks. The book starts out slow with basic line commands and builds slowly. It was difficult sometimes, and I sometimes referred to a second book as a reference; this is usually a good idea unless you are a masochist -- buy a second highly recommended book. Later, the manual goes into more sophisticated drawings. It has not been effortless but the author should be commended for achieving his goal of making learning AutoCAD as painless as possible. And, the price is reasonable. In 2002, I took an AutoCAD LT class. It was far more difficult and less comprehensible than this manual. It seems to me, that a company could save money by using this text instead and allowing self-paced training.
Recommended for beginners
Simple, step by step instructions make this book a very smart choice for beginners. I am a student and purchased this book for school. AutoCAD does take patience to learn. This book walks you step-by-step through the process.

Decent overview but light on examples
I am an experienced SolidWorks user who was looking for supplemental information to build my knowledge base and help me transition from SW 2005 to SW 2006.This manual is a decent general reference but it lacks any detailed examples and the CD that comes with it is mostly SW promotional stuff.I bought it because of the low price ($20)Also, there is no information on advanced features such as surface modeling

Do not recommend
I wanted a book that would provide a high level of overall understanding of SW quickly.I am new to SW.I've been teaching AutoCAD for over 4 years.I purchased this book with an understanding of the Dummy series.I was very disappointed with the lack of information for the new user.It seems that the book is targeted towards a user which has a basic understanding of the Software and that needs to understand the changes between the last version and now. I was not amused or informed.

Good book, recommended by Cadalyst too
I really liked this book and though that it was a funny and interesting way to learn a lot more about SolidWorks.It was very clearly written (but not boring) and had a lot of very specific examples you could follow along with.

Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire for Designers by Sham Tickoo
This book is definitely helpful (would you believe essential) in learning Pro/engineer Wildfire. It achieves a good balance between reference material and tutorial examples (as compared to Lamit's books which are mostly tutorial with CadTrain screen prints and step by step instructions, but with a good index).

Terrible index and wordy. Good tutorial, but not good as a reference book.

Good book, but verbose
The book is good, both for an experienced user migrating to Wildfire and a newbie. The author teaches the software on a step by step basis, followed by a thorough tutorial at the end of the chapters. The tutorials are useful, might as well skip the preceding sections and jump right at these to learn the software.Read more

Very unhappy with my purchase
The information on the web site was not very informative and trying to get to the check out was a hassel.What really is pathetic was the shipping.Either pay a ridiculus amount to get the item here or wait 2 weeks and not pay for shipping.Well in no real hurry I choose not to pay for shipping.The item was damaged and not packed very well.It was taped shut to keep the information and item together.I am still missing the cover and parts of the first chapter. ... Total Package for the beginner
The SolidWorks 2006 Tutorial is a must have book for your arsenal, if you are a new user to SolidWorks or an Instructor teaching a first year class using SolidWorks.
Awesome book for the classroom or new user
I`m a CAD instructor for a large Community College in the Southeast. September 2005 was the first time that I used SolidWorks. SolidWorks is a great 3D CAD tool. My experience is primarily with AutoCAD, 5 plus years.

Frustrating and very poorly edited
Did anyone actually do the problems given in the book?If they did they would have discovered that key strokes are missing and some dimensions are wrong.Awful, don't bother.

Editing?
The material is worthwhile, but the editors have let down the authors on this text. I found too many errors to be excused. Errors focused on spelling and missing keystroke information.
Beginner
This book is the best in the industry. There is no other book that can teach you mastercam mill from scratch, trust me i looked. I can't wait till they come out with their lathe version. ... Read more

Good step by steps
This is a great book combined with a Intro/Begginer CAD class.

Great for all levels...
I have been using AutoCAD in school for a couple of years but never learned how to fully use it, or use it correctly. This book makes it easy to learn from scratch, or just focus on what you need. It is extremely easy to use and follow. You could realistically learn the whole book in two solid days of reading.
