A true original, with a vengeance.
Antoni Gaudi stayed out of pigeonholes in a big way.His work defies analogy, let alone description.Let's see: Ice cream castles?No.Victorian/Edwardian psychedelia?Maybe, kinda sorta.A Beaux-Arts H. R. Giger?His work does have that certain sinuosity to it, though it contains nothing of the macabre.It's like he was plunked down in 19th century Barcelona from some future era.One can only imagine what he could have done with modern building materials. Good set of photos -- could be better
The set of photos is comprehensive, however I felt that the lighting of the exterior photos was too flat to convey the visual impact of the buildings. Gaudi Triumphantes!
Essentially this is a picture book, but what pictures! The photography has used the extraordinary architecture and added a new dimension to it in vision and lighting. If you would know Gaudi, look at his work: and this is one of the best ways to do it if you cannot readily get to Catalunya. In addition, the production and design of the book, in a relatively small format, has been very carefully thought out, resulting in one of those rare volumes which is delightful to handle and admire in its own right, quite apart from its content. An absolute little gem.

Great book for anybody interested in Gaudi and his works
As a student in architecture I spent some time looking for a good book on the works of Antonio Gaudi. I wasn't happy with any of the subject materials that were out there until I stumbledinto this book. The clarity of the pictures are amazing and could make anyone feel as though they were right in front of La Sagrada Familia. This book also includes some of Gaudi's sketches, as well as a few floor plans, elevations, and sections of some of his well known buildings. If you are a fan of Antonio Gaudi then this book would defenitely be a good investment. Even if you're not a student in architecture this book will make you appreciate the creativity of Antonio Gaudi,and his use of symbolism (in La Sagrada Familia) ... Read more

Great information
I just got back from a wonderful vacation to Barcelona, Spain.It was during my research for the trip that I came upon Gaudi and the architectural influence that he had on the city of Barcelona.I actually purchased the book before I went on vacation but I wanted to read it afterwards.From the intimate details that discuss the life of Gaudi and all the information I received on my trip from guided tours of the Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera (Casa Mila), and Guell Park, I have an amazing appreciation for Gaudi. My grand grand father's legacy.

Flash with little substance
The biggest problem here is layout and design.17 of the 80 pages are text, the rest photos; the text itself about Gaudi is average, being "spiced up" by using a variety of color background paper, and the insertion of large oddball font quotes about Gaudi, supposing to be avant-garde in presentation, but annoying and hard to read.The bulk of the book is photographs, which suffer from 3 major problems. First, the paper used is matte paper, not glossy, so even the photos taken in bright sunlight have a dull appearance (some of the photos are taken in shadows, as if the photographer did not want to come back later to get a good shot).Secondly, the photos do not support the text:With 17 pages of text and 60 or so of photos, you would think that when the text is describing Gaudi's invention and use of the parabolic arch there would be some photos near by to show what they are talking about.Thirdly, a poor choice of photos which are not labeled as to what they are, you have to look all the way in the back to find out what the photo is of (there is a full two page photo of Casa Mila, and the entire photo is out of focus. Unexcusable.)
