An Inspirational Deed by an Inspirational Artist
This book Arthur Boyd At Bundanon sent me off on a wonderful journey of discovery. Although I had been aware of and admired the art of Arthur Boyd, the celebrated Australian artist, I did not have much idea of him as aperson. This book by Janet Mckenzie, is very well researched, and is one ofthose books which stand up to several revisitings, over several years. Thestory it reveals, of a truly extraordinary man, an artist with an amazinginsight into the modern world, and a passionate love of his homeland,Australia, is skilfully told. Arthur Boyd towards the end of his lifedecided to gift his most most beloved property,home and studio, namedBundanon, to the Australian people. The purpose he had in mind was toprovide an artist's haven. This beautiful place in Australia, beside theShoalhaven River, has been a huge source of inspiration not only to ArthurBoyd, but also to many other noted Australian artists. As well as theinsight into the creative mind and soul of Arthur Boyd that the text ofthis book so sensitively and respectfully gives, there are a number of verywonderful reproductions of many of Arthur Boyd's paintings. Arthur Boyd and Drawing-life
This wonderful book with an introduction by Laurie Thomas, reproduces theenormous range of of graphic expressions that Boyd created in his lifetime. I was recently visiting his artists camp at Bundanon on the southcoast of New South Wales, and the book was there and I focused on it as analternative to playing Polly Body's grand piano, I suppose with the spiritof Merrickand David Boyd in mind.
