Great Site Design Reference
I was a bit tentative when I started to use this text. The book has some minor editing problems, but if your desire is to really understand site design with an emphasis on drainage and grading plan design this text does the trick and does it well. I would recommend this book to any Jr. land development designer/engineer as a must have reference.

Great reference book!
This is a great book to have on your shelf. Kept referring to it for my Site Technology classes and I know I'll be referring to it in the future. I found it very helpful and clearly written. Would highly recommend it.

Thorough but Poorly Organized
Puchased this text to help review for the LARE exam.The text has all of the necessary information but is not layed out well.Illustrations are not located on pages where they are referenced in the text making it so that you have to flip back and forth across several pages to understand the text in relation to the examples.Read more

Nice
Was anyone ever described to you as "nice"?Scary isn't it.I am an ardent fan of Deadwood and a fan of David Milch.This book is a `nice' coffee-table addition that succeeds as a way of fondly recollecting the characters and singular moments of Deadwood.I was hoping for an extension and an amplification of Deadwood -more great Black Hill's tales from Milch's magic pen.In that respect, the book is disappointing.

What about us boyish rectangular shaped women?
I was so looking forward to this book, but I ended up disappointed. There was good information to be had in spite of my body type not being defined or even mentioned once.I ended up taking tips from body type A and C as those seemed to most address my porpotions. I am tall, thin, with a narrow frame and small-breasted.

Good resource
This is a very good book about developing your own style.A lot of women would benefit from reading it.It's contemporary and relevant, well-written and practical.

From Funky to Fashionista
This truly is a great guide for woman who want pointers on how to improve their look.It takes you back to the basics: consider your shape first, then your measurements and lastly the latest trend.Since I am not into the latest trend (I'm more classic), I desperately needed to know what shape category I fell.I'm an obscure "C."This tidbit of information is crucial for me when I step into the store.It leads me in the right path.

Extensive, Complete, Erudite, wonderful
I first learned photoshop from an earlier edition of this book. Throughout its many editions it's remained among the very best. At a time when Photoshop is becoming more and more daunting to learn and keep-up-with, and when many of the books therefore present a more simplistic, or at least restrictive, approach to the subject, and where hype is beginning to dominate the field, it's a pleasure to find this solid, authorative treatise continuing to shine. It's not an easy read--one of these one page per thought books--but it's got an awful lot of great information in it.

Requiem for the Best
This book, and its predecessors for each iteration of Photoshop, are amongst the finest of the many instructional manuals on the software.This is because the book is not only comprehensive, but provides highly effective tutorials.These tutorials start with an image on the accompanying CD and lead the reader to modify that image step by step to a final image.Because of my admiration, I was shocked to read in the introduction that this was to be the last in the series.We will have to find our way through future Photoshop versions through other means.
Excellent in-depth but very clear and logical explainations
I have been using Photoshop since 1992, so I knew it fairly well before I bought this book, but my experience was mainly in graphical design. I am now focusing on photography. I have read a lot of confusing and conflicting advice on how to use Photoshop to get the most out of your photos and have an efficient "workflow", so I wanted a book to clear things up for me. I bought this based on several published recommendations. I have worked my way about 2/3rd through it and I have found it to be excellent in all respects. It's not a book for someone who wants a quick once-over, but if you want to really become an expert with Photoshop for photography, this book is great. Jonathan Harr has done a masterful job of taking us along as two art historians follow different clues that lead to the proof that a rare find (the finding of Caravaggio's "Taking of Christ") is the original.Two art students looking to follow the provenance of one of Caravaggio's other paintings, stumble upon a lead as to what had happened to another of his pieces.

Great Way to Learn SketchUp
I am sure if you are a Google fan you now know that they offer SketchUp for free.Dr. Fukai's book assumed you had a limited amount of time (480 minutes) using the SketchUp 4.0 trial version included with his book.I can say that his book is truly one fantastic way to learn a lot about the details of modeling with SketchUp.Dr. Fukai's interactive "shorties" allows you to go over as often as needed to learn the details of this 3D software.I was having some difficulty part way through the tutorials and emailed Dr. Fukai and received detailed instructions on how to proceed. He is an excellent teacher and his book is highly recommended.

A Must Have!
First of all, please note that this is a coffee table-type book. It is oversized and oddly-shaped. So if that bothers you, steer clear.
Appropriate title!
I bought this book because my dad's side of the family is Irish and I'd hoped to one day go.The book is a gorgeous addition to my photography book collection...and my desire to go to Ireland has been upgraded from 'one day hope to go' to 'can't wait to go!'.

Fifty plus years of an extraordinary artist's output
Cy Twombly is an artist who remains on the playing field, creating much the same type work over the years, yet still inspiring artists and audience alike.There is something gloriously spontaneous and innocent abouthis seemingly random 'scribblings' on canvas or paper.Perhaps he connects with the nascent artist in each of us: 'if this man can do this, I could, too!'
About the only major Twombly book in print
Basically, works on Twombly seem to come and go out of print, and become rather pricey collectors items quickly. This book contains an excellent selection of reproductions, including foldouts, of all phases of his career. The only thing that prevents this from being a five star book is the rather pedestrian (although well researched) text, in the usual obfuscating artspeak that passes for deep insight today. The out of print Varnadoe book from the major restropective of the 90's has a far more lucid outline of the works in question...but, really, you're probably buying the book for the reproductions anyway, and there are plenty of them, including some nice full page close up details of the often massive works. Not an inexpensive book, but well worth it for anyone interested in this "painter's painter" works. ... Read more

Good book
Doesn't give a detailed analysis of anything, but is a great tool for people wanting a basic understanding of green building, energy efficient techniques, etc.

Beautiful, but....
This book no doubt makes a lovely addition to my coffee table. I feel so inspired and now.. how do I do it?? I was looking for more practical advice that addressed all my reasons for wanting to remodel green - protecting my family's health and our planet's natural resources and my financial savings. If the intention was to create a stunning, inspiring book - great job. If it was to really explain what green is and exactly how to do it, I think I'd look to books like "Green Remodeling" by Johnston and Master or read Environmental Building News....

Lovely exquisite coffee table book
I ordered my copy direct from Time Life and it came in the mail yesterday; I was truly impressed; I heard about the Seychelles Islands, but who knew it was that lovely; the flat as pancake Maldive Islands impressed me as well; How they got through the tsunami is nothing short but a miracle; To see the pictures of these islands are beautiful. THIS IS SURPRISINGLY ENTERNTAINING!
The authors spent about four years collecting doodles from as many presidents as possible. The results are presented here. Did you know Hoover's doodles were used for a line of baby clothes? Did you know Johnson's administration was filled with doodlers? The authors give context to each president's times along with the reproduced doodles. Mind blowing
Having met James and briefly discussing his work, only makes me appreciate the book that much more. When I asked him why he did what he did and why he risked life and limb to capture some of these images, he simply replied "People have got to know."
The most amazing and moving photojournalism
When I first looked at Inferno by James Nachtwey it was hard to believe what I was looking at. The images of the harsh and inhumane conditions in which Romanian ophanes are kept, the starving and impoverished people of Somalia, the battlegrounds and devastion of Bosnia and Chechyna, the social and economic divisions in India, and the terrible images of Rwanda that defy human comprehension. Nachtwey combines amazing artistic abilities that remain in one's mind with the raw and unrefined images of the harshest places in the world. To look at Nachtwey's pictures is more than just looking, but experiencing. When looking at these pictures you experience an intense mixture of emotions from anger, fear, sadness, and struggling to grasp how this acts could be done.

EXCELLENT rendering help
My rendering skills have improved HUGELY scince recieving this book.It helps with marker, colored pencils, pastels, how to treat light, etc.My renderings look amazing and it is a great reference for when I'm not sure how to treat a surface/object.I would absolutely recommend this book.

a standard
This is one of the standard history of art textbooks. Of course it includes color prints of all the most famous art of the Western tradition, as well as numerous photographs and floorplans of famous architecture. It has a little coverage of Islamic art, but that is a topic that deserves better than it can be given in a textbook on the Western tradition. Painting, architecture and sculpture are clearly the focus, but photography and decor each get a nod. Other forms of art--from gardening to appliance design--although interesting, evidently cannot fit in this space.

How blonde can you get?
All I can say is Mona Lisa must be a blonde!It's a fine book of unseen photos from the Born to Run cover shoot. And yes, Mona Lisa it was all shot in one day.

You can learn a lot if you don't fall asleep first.
I am currently enrolled in a floral design program using this book as text.Yes, it is a very imformative book, but Ms. Hunter goes into far to much detail and uses far to many words to get her point across.Maybe it's just me and I am a far more visually oriented person, but trying to learn floral design through the use of a text book so far is not my cup of tea...I think it's a good reference book but that's about it.

Excellent Textbook
I have referred to this textbook throughout the five years since I took my first floral design class.I am now a seasoned designer and sometimes refresh my memory by re-reading chapters.Well-written and illustrated.

Definitely worth buying.
This is a great textbook.Not for casual reading.It has so much information about floral design and care and handling of fresh flowers and foliage.It gives good design illustrations that you can copy and make for your home or for friends and family.I'll be referring to this book for information long after my classes are over. ...
